Bark in the Park

Well, let me start by saying I am glad I did something good to help other doggies and animals, BUT that I did not have much fun doing it! Mommy and I went to Bark in the Park yesterday. It was to benefit the Harford County Humane Society. The problem was, it poured the WHOLE time. I did the walk in my pink raincoat but afterwards I was shivering. Mommy kept picking me up to keep me warm, but even that didn't work. So, we didn't stay too long. I feel bad that the rain probably made a lot of people decide not to go, and therefore they probably made less money. I hope people still send in the money they raised!

On the up side, I saw a few other dachshunds at the walk. On the bad side, I was the worst behaved of them. It's not that I was BAD, but I definitely barked a lot during the walk. I was trying to get the attention of the dogs in front of me but they just ignored me. HOW RUDE! Next time I will try and be quieter for Mommy.

Here's a picture of me and Mommy after the race. I look TINY!

Here's a picture of me after the walk (oops, my eyes were shut!).

My first ER visit!

OK, so as I mentioned in my previous post, I went to the vet yesterday. He gave my my distemper vaccine (I don't think I have a temper, but Mommy said this shot was necessary, so I listened and was a good girl). Well, later on last night I started to lick the area where my shot was given. Daddy told me to stop licking and then Mommy took a closer look and it was swollen. She didn't think too much of it but planned to keep an eye on it. Then she went to watch a movie in the other room. A little while later, I started itching so I was constantly rubbing my face with my paw. I also relaxed a bit in my doggie house and I never normally stay there more than a few seconds. Mommy finally figured out something was up. Took her long enough! Geez sometimes I wish she was like Dr. Doolittle and could hear what I say! Anyway, she looked at me and my whole snout was swollen and I had hives on my face and head! She freaked out and rushed to show Daddy who agreed a visit to the emergency vet was in order. He also noticed my ears were very red inside. Mommy and Daddy took me to the ER. The people there were very friendly and took care of me pretty quickly. The only thing I didn't like was the long thing they stuck in my butt. When it came out they said I had a fever of 105.5 which apparently is not very good! So, they gave me some benedryl for the swelling and some steroids too. Daddy says I am gonna be big and strong like Arnold Schwarzadogger or something. After a little while my temperature went down and we went home. I slept snuggled up with Mommy and my head on her arm. She and Daddy seemed to be pretty concerned last night! Then, this morning I still was a bit swollen in my face so Mommy called the regular vet and we went in. He said I look ok and the swelling would go down... and now it has. He also said he talked with the company who made the shot that gave me the reaction and it turns out mini dachsies have a reaction to distemper vaccines more than any other breed! Luckily, this vaccine is good for 3 years, maybe longer and I won't have to worry about swelling like that again soon! Also, mommy seems to be pretty excited because the company is going to pay my ER bill! I remember Daddy saying something about "that's a lot of stuffies you could have had" when he saw the amount of the bill. Since Mommy is getting that back, I am hoping a lot of stuffies are in my near future!

I am feeling much better but still groggy because I am on benedry and steroids for a couple of days. I am going to be strong :).

Oh, and here is a picture of the doggie house I referred to earlier. Isn't it cute! Oh, I know I am cute too!

Vacation and Vet

I have 2 things to talk about today. First, I went to the vet today. Mommy and the doctor were so impressed with me. At first, I wouldn't let go of mommy's shoulder to get on the table but once I did... boy was I good. I let him poke me with a needle near my bum with something mommy says will keep me healthy for 3 years. Then he collected blood from my paw and I stood completely still for him. I am such a good girl :).

But, back to what I originally wanted to talk about. Last week, mommy and daddy went on vacation. I couldn't go on the cruise with them so I stayed with grandma and grandpa. I had met them a few times before and they seemed like nice enough people, but of course at first I didn't want anyone else but mommy and daddy. Then, as time past, I realized it wasn't so bad. Grandpa played with me lots and both let me cuddle with them. I slept right up against grandma at night just like I do with mommy. Also, Grandpa took me to work with him everyday. One of my favorite things was running around the warehouse. Ohhh and I can't forget the treats they gave me! They gave me lots more than mommy and daddy do... but shhhh! don't tell them! Also, mommy let me lick her leftover eggs from her plate everyday. I was in heaven! Then when mommy and daddy came back, I was excited to see them. I think Grandpa started to realize he was going to miss me because he kept holding me and wouldn't let me go! I really love him too! I called him yesterday to say Happy Father's Day and mommy told me he said he missed me and not my mommy. I think mommy felt a little bad about that but she got over it!

Anyway, today I am going to relax for most of the afternoon. It is pretty hot out but I am hoping for a nice walk tonight when it gets cooler. Until next time, woof woof!

About me

Hello. My name is Zoe and I am a miniature dachshund. I live in a Baltimore suburb with my mommy and her boyfriend, who I consider my daddy. Mommy got me from the SPCA after my first owners decided they didn't want me AND their baby. Well poop on them! I have a much better life where I am now and I can't really complain much now. I get one of the best foods on the market, plus yummy treats and bones. Mommy and daddy love to pet me because they say I am supersoft. Even my boyfriend's parents switched his food because they wanted him to be soft like me. My boyfriend's name is Joe and he is also a mini dachshund. He's red and a bit smaller than me though. We like to bark at each other through the window and fence a lot but when we are in the same yard, we run around and chase each other and sniff butts too! He has 2 sisters too, but I don't play with them. They get jealous of me and are not always so nice. Here's a picture of me and Joe. He looks mean, but he isn't really.

Mommy adopted me a little over a year ago when I was almost 2 years old. I will be three in August. I hope my birthday is as good as my Gotcha Day (anniversary of the day mommy got me) was. Grandma and Grandpa came down to visit and I got lots of new toys for my Gotcha Day. BUT, my favorite part was when they all took me out to dinner with them to a dog friendly restaurant in Baltimore named the Thirsty Dog Pub. I got to sit at the table with them and everything! Here's a pic from the restaurant. I also got to play with Joe and we stopped by Rita's Italian Ices and mommy shared her Gelato with me. YUM!

I have some other friends I try to see often too. I belong to a dachshund meetup group and I see other doggies like me and play with them once a month. I also go hiking with mommy and sometimes her friend Nicole and her dog Annabelle (dachshund/beagle) mix come along. Annabelle likes to play in the water and roll around in the dirt when we hike. Mommy tries to get me in the water but seems happy that I don't roll in the dirt. I am not so sure about water though. Maybe one day I will venture past my ankles :). Annabelle is also much more reliable than me and her mommy lets her run off lead. My mommy is afraid I will run away and get lost so I stay closeby. Sometimes it bothers me than Annabelle has all that freedom and I bark at her. I also hike with Katie and her dog Blitz sometimes too. Oh and I have another friend named Bella. Her mommy is Jane and she used to teach with my mommy. I stayed with Bella and her family for a few days right after mommy got me because they had a planned vacation.

Ok, time for me to finish this post. Although, I could talk about myself forever. Mommy says I am so cute and she loves when I raise my ears, give her an Elvis look, or make one of my "sounds". She seems to like pretty much everything about me. I guess I am one lucky dog :).
